Dating & Attachment
Dating can feel exciting and hopeful — but it can also become confusing, exhausting, and painfully repetitive.
You may find yourself drawn to people who cannot give you what you need. You might overthink messages, lose interest when someone gets too close, struggle to trust, become attached very quickly, or keep finding yourself in relationships that seem to follow the same frustrating pattern.
Sometimes, the problem isn't that you're choosing the "wrong" people. It's that attraction, attachment, past experiences, expectations, boundaries, and the way you respond to closeness are all influencing who feels right to you — and what happens once a connection begins.
The good news is that these patterns can be understood and healed. And when you do - dating can become less confusing, more intentional, and far more likely to lead to the kind of relationship you genuinely want.
What Makes Dating Challenging?
Dating isn't only about finding someone who is available and interested. It's also about navigating who we notice, who excites us, who feels familiar, and who we allow ourselves to become close to.
Sometimes the dating pool itself can feel discouraging. You may meet plenty of people, but very few seem genuinely compatible. You might know exactly what you should be looking for and still find yourself repeatedly attracted to people who are emotionally unavailable, inconsistent, unsuitable, or simply unable to offer the kind of relationship you want.
And knowing the pattern doesn't always stop it.
You can understand that someone isn't good for you and still feel intensely drawn to them. You can recognise that you tend to chase people who pull away, lose interest when someone is genuinely available, tolerate behaviour you know you shouldn't, or become invested far too quickly — and still find yourself doing it again.
This is because dating patterns aren't created by logic alone. Attraction, attachment, self-worth, past relationships, early experiences, fear of rejection, fear of closeness, expectations and learned ways of protecting yourself can all shape what feels exciting, safe or familiar.
For others, the challenge looks completely different. You may have reached adulthood with very little — or no — dating, relationship or sexual experience. Perhaps you focused on work, education, family or other areas of life. Perhaps confidence, social anxiety, missed opportunities or simply not knowing where to begin kept dating on the sidelines for much longer than you expected.
In that situation, dating can feel like entering a world where everyone else seems to know rules you were never taught.
Whether you're repeating the same relationships or trying to begin dating for the first time, insight is important — but insight alone isn't always enough.
Real change often begins when you start healing what sits underneath them.
That might mean working through painful past relationships, rejection, fear of abandonment, fear of closeness, low confidence, shame, lack of experience, or the beliefs you have formed about yourself and relationships over time. It may also mean learning skills you were simply never taught — how to approach someone, how to recognise genuine compatibility, how to communicate interest, how to set boundaries, how to tolerate healthy closeness, and how to build a relationship without losing yourself inside it.

What growth and healing look like when it comes to dating?
As that healing happens, dating can begin to feel different. Healthy people can start to feel more attractive rather than boring or unfamiliar. Being seen can feel less threatening. Approaching someone can feel possible rather than terrifying. You can begin to trust yourself more, recover from disappointment more easily, and make choices based not only on chemistry or fear, but on what actually has the potential to become a healthy relationship.
And at some point, there is a question worth asking yourself: if not now, when?
How many more years do you want to spend waiting to feel ready? How many more heartbreaks, almost-relationships, unavailable partners, missed opportunities, or lonely evenings do you want to go through before you decide that this is something worth actively working on?
You do not need to have everything figured out before you ask for support. A free 30-minute Discovery Call is simply a chance to talk through what has been happening, what you would like to change, and whether I may be the right person to help you begin moving towards the kind of dating and relationship experience you actually want.
How I Can Help You Create a Different Dating Experience
Imagine dating from a very different place. Instead of second-guessing yourself, over-investing too quickly, or wondering whether you are asking for too much, you feel clearer about what you want, more confident in how you show up, and more able to recognise what is — and isn’t — right for you.
Maybe you stop treating every connection as something you have to make work, or something that threatens your essence. You become better at noticing compatibility, responding to red flags, protecting your boundaries, and walking away from situations that ask you to settle for less than you need.
And if dating currently feels unfamiliar or intimidating, the journey may simply begin with becoming more comfortable taking part in it at all — building confidence, learning the practical skills, and gaining enough experience that it no longer feels like everyone else knows something you don’t.
My role is to help you get from where you are now to that more grounded place.
That work is rarely just about one thing. Sometimes you need greater self-awareness. Sometimes you need practical tools and new ways of behaving. And sometimes the biggest shift comes from working through the emotional experiences that make healthier choices difficult to follow through on.
When those pieces start coming together, dating can feel less like something happening to you and more like something you know how to navigate, with clarity and being able to truly trust yourself and your path in finding the Love you desire.
